Myth: bananas are the best source of potassium
Bananas are a good source of potassium, but not the richest. Potatoes, beans, spinach and avocado all contain more per 100 grams. The banana just has the better reputation.
Papaya is a natural meat tenderiser
Papaya contains papain, an enzyme that breaks down protein, which is why it is used in many parts of the world to tenderise meat. The black seeds inside are edible too, with a peppery taste.
Goes well with
- Porridge, oats or pancakes
- Peanut butter on warm toast
- Fresh lime juice and a little ginger
- Coconut yoghurt
- Vanilla ice cream
